JONNA GILL, CREATOR OF THE GOD MADE FLOWERS PROJECT, INVOLVING THE CELEBRATION
OF GOD, SHEDS LIGHT ON WHAT IT IS AND ITS ORGINS, IN HER OWN WORDS.
“I was invited to dinner one day by two coworkers, who happened to have been atheist,” says Jonna. “Usually, our conversations ran a course around work and world politics, but on this particular day, the conversation turned towards questioning the existence of God. I was the last to arrive to the restaurant that evening, and once seated, both friends turned towards me immediately and said, “so what makes you so sure God exist? The other then chimed in, “Yeah, what makes you so sure?” I thought I saw smoke coming out of their nostrils as they both waited, with steel-eyed gazes, for my response.
Immediately my mind started scanning all the esoteric, philosophical religious text, of both past and present that I have ever read about the existence of God. Completely flustered, I looked down and noticed a small but beautiful centerpiece of flowers on the table, and then quickly, out of my mouth sprang the simplest, most clear words of “proof” that I could utter.
“Just look at those flowers,” I said. “Could something so exquisite, so extraordinary and sublime be an accident? I grabbed a flower from the small bouquet. “You can hold the evidence right in the palm of your hands. Flowers represent some of the most complex, awe-inspiring natural works of art ever created. Masterful works can only be created by a master, and that creative master would be God! Flowers exist, because God exist, and I declare that GOD MADE FLOWERS!” We continued the meal in silence, because after I made my statement, my normally loquacious friends had nothing else to say.”
Jonna subsequently turned the incident into the GOD MADE FLOWERS project. It is an unabashed celebration of the greatest creator of all, GOD! Reflected in a poster series and soon to be a book, photographs of flowers, taken by photographer Jonna Gill, are paired with brilliant quotes from the famous, (and the not so famous), that have been uttered throughout history regarding the existence of God. Included as well are sporadic reflections from the author, inspired from her own personal search to find God, and the subsequent divine “love affair” with God that ensued.
Jonna states, “in today’s fast-paced world, we spend so much time mostly thinking about ourselves, while steeped within a society that sadly glorifies the ego. Because of this, we often forget about that who gives us life and is responsible for our existence, and who without, we would not exist. This divinely inspired project allows one to take a few moments to think of God, along with the opportunity to thank God publicly in your own words.”
In January 2024, we will be opening a Facebook page for you to post your “shout out,” to God! We will be choosing certain quotes to be included, with permission, in the book, GOD MADE FLOWERS, which is being compiled now. God Made Flowers posters can be obtained on this website in the poster section. Soon we will be offering you a poster or canvas print where we will place your own personal message to God, paired with a flower portrait of your choice.
